AutoCAD is designed primarily for 2D drafting and 2D drafting and 2D CAD, but also supports other 2D applications such as architectural drawings. AutoCAD supports many of the other Autodesk packages that AutoCAD came from, so it can be considered as a leading CAD package, even if it was not the first CAD product. The AutoCAD application can be run without an Autodesk license, so it can be used for free, provided that the user is not making any commercial use of the file.
AutoCAD was originally released for the Macintosh platform, but support was added for other platforms including: DOS, Windows, Unix and Linux. In 1991, the first version of AutoCAD was released for the IBM PC platform. It would go on to become the standard software for most new-build CAD applications. In 2002, AutoCAD 3D was introduced, followed by AutoCAD LT for smaller firms in 2004. AutoCAD 2013 introduced a number of new features, including a new user interface (UI), customizable user views, and workflows.
AutoCAD was introduced on December 13, 1982 by San Diego-based US company Autodesk, Inc., who went on to become the world’s leading developer of 2D and 3D graphics software and related services. At the time of the first release of AutoCAD, Autodesk was run by Don Browne and his team of four people. Browne joined Autodesk in 1977. The original version of AutoCAD was an application, not a system-wide operating system. It ran on a personal computer (PC) as a single user application, in the form of a graphical user interface (GUI). The first version of AutoCAD was for Macintosh, but later versions were available for IBM PC, MS-DOS and OS/2.
In early 1983, Autodesk’s 2D design and drafting software package, AutoCAD, was released. A few days later, a graphics workstation based on a 286 microprocessor and the new Microsoft Windows operating system, was made available to Autodesk users. The first release of AutoCAD for PC was then available as both a desktop application and a workstation for three different price levels. The three levels are AutoCAD Basic, AutoCAD Professional and AutoCAD Civil 3D, priced at US$495, US$995 and US$1,495 respectively.
, and several AutoLISP macros (notably the macro-based rendering engine ). AutoCAD LT includes a configuration file parser called Arcci” that can be used to read and modify many of AutoCAD’s configuration files in a LISP environment.
AutoCAD is also used in the construction of complex projects. One of the earliest examples of a large-scale architectural project built on AutoCAD is the Chrysler World Headquarters building in Michigan. Many architectural projects used the architectural software are also documented by CAD on wikipedia.
In 2003, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City opened a exhibition of the work of artist Jasper Johns. The exhibition, titled Jasper Johns: The Colorful World of Line and Form, used AutoCAD 2000 and the Windows 3.1 operating system to draw lines and create rectangles over photographs of John’s paintings.
The 15th-century Hansa Hall in Hamburg was also built using a combination of computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing techniques. The hall consists of 3,300 blocks (1,280 of which are occupied) of colored cement, cut in four different pieces and arranged in such a way that it could be assembled without manual assistance. The building was conceived and constructed by Hargreaves Associates, a British company working on behalf of the consul general of the U.S.
Multiuser editing is an essential feature of AutoCAD. The designers of AutoCAD worked with many other disciplines to create an extensible system, whereby a user editing a drawing would not have to know or understand the inner workings of the drawing engine. The designers accomplished this by making changes in an object model, the internal representation of a drawing in memory. Other disciplines such as architects and engineers use a similar model, although with different access levels. For example, architects use the drawing engine to access the various methods in the drawing object model, whereas engineers use the parts of the object model to access and modify the drawing file on disk.
In the late 1980s, AutoCAD was the first programming environment developed for Windows that gained widespread use. The first version of AutoCAD was based on classic LISP. The original AutoLISP allowed AutoCAD users to create their own macros, as well as create scripts for manipulation of drawings. The first version of AutoCAD included a text based configuration file format (ACDB
Is there any built in plot in Python?
I am learning Python, and is there any built in plot in Python? I know there are libraries such as matplotlib, but is there any built in plot that can plot graphs automatically?
It is possible to generate graphs using the Python function
as shown here: How do I plot a simple graph in Python?.
You can create graphs with the matplotlib package. In Python you can use matplotlib.pyplot.
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
I know this is an old thread, but I’m going to chime in anyway.
In the case that you want to plot a graph with no axes, pylab.plot() is good enough. Just like with matplotlib.pyplot.plot, you’ll have to insert at least an x-axis, otherwise nothing will be plotted. If you want the graph to be rotated to be horizontal, just make sure that the first parameter is set to 2 or 3:
pylab.plot(x, y, 2)
pylab.plot(x, y, 3)
A useful shorthand for the above is to use numpy’s array of arrays:
But be careful, I’ve personally seen numpy.array([x, y]) be horribly slow for large arrays, if x and y are multi-dimensional arrays.
In the case you want axes, use the matplotlib’s axes for the x- and y-axes, then you can draw whatever shapes you want on the axis, like text and lines and such. You can then use the various mpl sublibraries to plot the graph.
For example, to plot a simple graph:
import numpy as np
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
import mpl_toolkits.mplot3d.art3d as art3d
# Build a graph with a single line
x = np.linspace(-2, 2, 100)
y = np.sin(
