What Is AutoCAD?
AutoCAD is a commercial software application for engineering, architectural, and technical drawing, design, and drafting. With the introduction of AutoCAD, users were no longer required to use paper to draw schematic, technical, and architectural drawings. The software was released to the public in the early 1980s and since then has become popular with millions of users around the world.
In 1982, the first version of AutoCAD was introduced to the market as a desktop app that used a custom-built graphics system. It was a relatively expensive piece of software, costing up to $1,500 for a single license. In 1986, the first version of AutoCAD LT, a more basic version of the software, was released to the market, with the new version costing $500 for a single license. Although it was less expensive, AutoCAD LT was only available on the Apple II family of computers.
During the early years of the software, graphics were still stored in the computer’s memory, not on separate disk drives. The software also required a computer with a graphics chip to run. These requirements made AutoCAD software suitable only for desktop computers and local offices with dedicated computer hardware, and not accessible on mainframes or minicomputers. In 1985, the first version of AutoCAD R14, which was optimized for use on IBM PC-based computers, was released. It ran on IBM PC compatible computers and included hardware that could display the drawing on a CRT screen and a printer. The software also allowed for drawings to be stored on magnetic disk and was the first version of the software to be available on mainframes.
These early versions of AutoCAD software, along with the Apple II version, were released by AutoDesk, Inc., a company that was founded by former MIT CAD professors. The company eventually changed its name to Autodesk Inc. and the software became one of the first software applications to be offered under the Autodesk brand.
AutoCAD software is now available in multiple versions that use hardware that may be found on a desktop computer, laptop, tablet, or mobile device.
AutoCAD mobile apps, also known as mobile apps, were first

In addition, the drawing server software releases VXD, a set of Visual Studio extensions to AutoCAD that can be used to create and edit custom drawings.
Simplifying AutoCAD’s syntax
In 2010, Autodesk launched a redesign of its computer-aided drafting system, which included making it more friendly to AutoCAD users from the outset. The primary goal was to make AutoCAD easier to learn, and this was supported by a simplification of AutoCAD’s drawing commands. This included the ability to import and export drawings with fewer operations, as well as an improved print command. The new approach also emphasized creating drawings in the most appropriate application, rather than trying to make one’s way through several legacy user interfaces (UIs), with the aim to provide a consistent user experience across applications.
In 2012, Autodesk reorganized the desktop interface to make it more consistent across the suite of applications. This reorganization included a new ribbon design for the user interface, which was intended to make it easier to find commands that were most relevant to the task being carried out. It also included a common toolbar that could be used across all the applications, rather than having individual tools for each application.
The simplification of AutoCAD’s drawing commands was intended to make the command-based workflow more consistent and flexible, but the exact changes to the syntax of the commands and a detailed documentation of the new commands had not been released by Autodesk until June 2016.
AutoCAD has been enhanced throughout its history, including new features, new methods of working, and more efficient ways of doing things. Below is a list of some of the more prominent new features since the release of AutoCAD 2010.
New data display features
AutoCAD 2019 has introduced new tools for presenting data to the user in different forms. The following table shows how to activate these new display options in AutoCAD.
New user interface changes
In AutoCAD 2016, there was a significant change in the user interface. Many of the commands and functions had moved to a new tabbed system. In AutoCAD 2017, the user interface was changed again, to a less tabbed system.
The new UI is more similar to the UI of other Autodesk products, such as SketchBook Pro, In

NullReferenceException error when returning a list
I’m getting this error on one of my code lines:
“Object reference not set to an instance of an object.”
I’m not sure why I’m getting this error. The error line is:
Product = Product.FirstOrDefault(p => p.Slug == lnk);
lnk is a variable. I’ve tried setting up a watch on it, but it says it’s null.
Here’s the rest of the code:
using (var db = new AppDbContext())
using (var sql = db.Database.SqlQuery(“SELECT * FROM Products WHERE CustomerId = @0”, cusId))
var prod = sql.ToList();
if (prod!= null)
var product = prod.FirstOrDefault(p => p.Slug == lnk);
if (product == null)
A query like this:
SELECT * FROM Products WHERE CustomerId = @0
will return a List. As such it’s best to select the properties you want like so:
What’s New in the?
With the new PDF export command, you can create a file to share your drawings online. From your DGN file, export the model in native PDF format with new or updated comments. (video: 2:30 min.)
Advanced Geometry Tool:
With this new tool, you can easily create a surface-based model and then easily transform it into a solid-based model. This tool allows you to quickly generate a 2D model from a 3D model, allowing you to save time when trying to get a visual representation of your final product. (video: 1:00 min.)
Improved keyboard access by adding new shortcuts to existing commands, making it easier to access commands and insert new elements in a drawing. If you work with a mouse, you can also move the new shortcut panel to your screen edge, making it easy to move between it and your drawing. (video: 2:50 min.)
New Linear Dimension tool:
The new Linear Dimension tool is the fast and easy way to measure length. It has a new tool tip to help you quickly create a linear dimension with up to 6 digits and hide the tool tip as you type.
Save your Most-Used Graphics:
Save your most-used graphics in a separate folder for quicker and more convenient access. (video: 1:55 min.)
New Color Palettes:
Create new color palettes from existing color themes, or combine two palettes to create a custom color scheme. (video: 1:40 min.)
Themes for all web browsers:
Customize the color of the fonts in your drawings for a consistent look on your desktop, tablet and mobile device. (video: 1:05 min.)
Faster User Interface:
Using Windows 10, we’ve made your AutoCAD experience more fluid and less clutter. There’s less white space and you get access to even more tool tips and feature information right away. In the new interface, you get an overview of all your drawings at once, so you know where you are in your project.
Redesigned “Home” menu:
We’ve redesigned the “Home” menu to make it more intuitive. Now, when you select a command from the menu, it becomes the active tool in the drawing. This changes the color
